How to Prepare Saffron

Unlock the Full Aroma, Color & Flavor

Step 1 - Grind

Using a mortar and pestle, spice grinder, or coffee grinder,   grind the saffron threads into a fine powder.

Note:

Saffron threads naturally vary in size, weight, and grade, so the thread counts above are only a general guide. If you do not have a precision scale, you can use a pinch of saffron instead. As a reference, 1 pinch is approximately 0.1 g, or about 15–20 saffron threads. Don’t worry too much about exact measurements—slightly more or less saffron can still produce excellent results. Feel free to adjust the amount to your personal taste and enjoy the experience.

Step 2 – Infuse
(Choose One Method)

Hot Water Method

* Add 30 ml (2 tbsp) hot water per 0.1 g saffron
* Steep for 10–15 minutes

Ice Method

* Add 2–3 ice cubes per 0.1 g saffron
* Allow ice to melt completely
* Steep for 20–30 minutes

Add the saffron infusion to rice, stow, soup, tea, desserts, sauces, or beverages, Or get creative and add it to any recipe you think could benefit from saffron’s unique color, aroma, and flavor.

1 - Does saffron expire?

Saffron does not spoil quickly, but its aroma, color, and potency gradually decline over time. When stored properly, it can maintain excellent quality for up to two years or more.

2 - Why should saffron be bloomed before use?

Blooming saffron helps release its natural compounds, resulting in better color, aroma, and flavor in your recipes.  

3 - How should saffron be stored?

Store saffron in an airtight container away from heat, light, and moisture. A cool, dry cupboard is ideal.

4 - Can saffron be used in drinks?

Yes. Saffron is commonly used in tea, warm milk, herbal infusions, and specialty beverages. Just a few threads are usually enough.  

5 - Why is saffron so expensive?

Each saffron flower produces only three delicate stigmas, which must be harvested by hand. Thousands of flowers are required to produce a small amount of saffron.
